What does our Travel Insurance cover?
We offer three levels of travel insurance covering the UK, Europe and Worldwide. All of them cover up to £10 million emergency medical expenses. This includes repatriation cover to help get you home if medically necessary.
Take a look at some of the main benefits below:
Economy – offers £2,000 cancellation and £1,000 baggage cover.
Standard – offers £3,000 cancellation and £1,500 baggage cover.
Premier – offers £5,000 cancellation and £2,500 baggage cover.
You also have the option to add cover for Cruises, Winter Sports and Sports and Activities. Plus, you can remove your excess on any level of cover – that’s the amount you pay when you make a claim.
BigBlueCover Travel insurance for COVID-19
One of the first things you look for on travel insurance is whether it covers you for COVID-19. But it’s worth checking what that actually means for you and the people you’re travelling with.
BigBlueCover COVID-19 cover goes beyond just covering you for medical costs – for instance, our COVID-19 cover gives you the confidence to travel against FCDO (Foreign Office) advice in Europe on our single trip policies.
Take a look at what else you’ll be covered for:
- Medical costs and additional accommodation/travel expenses if you are diagnosed with COVID-19.
- Covers Cancellation costs if you test positive before you go.
- Cancellation costs if you are denied boarding as a result of a medical test (e.g. temperature test at the airport).
- Cancellation costs if you’re contacted by NHS Test and Trace and told to self-isolate up to 14 days before your trip.
- The cost of your travel test kits if you have to cancel your trip.
- You’ll be covered to travel against FCDO advice on European Single Trip policies*.
Terms and conditions apply, see the policy wording for full details and read more here. * If FCDO advise not to travel to your destination for COVID-19 reasons only.
Travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions
If you have a pre-existing medical condition, make sure you have it covered by your travel insurance policy.
Travel insurance doesn’t automatically cover pre-existing conditions, or anything which could be directly or indirectly related to them. With BigBlueCover you can declare your medical conditions online when you get a quote. You can go through quick and secure medical screening online to see if cover for your conditions can be added to your policy. You’ll be able to see if this affects the price, and by how much before deciding to buy.
A breakdown of what travel insurance covers
When you get a quote you’ll see a long list of policy benefits – but what does each of them really mean? Take a look at our guide to some of the key benefits below and check the full terms and conditions in our policy wording here.
Emergency medical expenses
As its name suggests, this covers your hospital bills. But it will also cover you for repatriation back to the UK if medically necessary. It also covers little things that can cause a pain on holiday – like emergency dental treatment. You’ll also see Hospital Benefit on your policy – this is incidental costs if you’re an inpatient abroad which would otherwise be free in the UK. For example, some countries may charge for hospital food or transfers.
Personal Possessions and Baggage
This covers your luggage and the belongings you’re taking with you against loss, theft or damage. It also covers you to buy emergency items if your bags go missing while they’re with your airline.
Cancellation cover
If you can’t go on your trip because you or someone you’re travelling with falls ill, or for another unforeseen reason – such as redundancy or an emergency at home, for example a burglary or flood.
Travel Delay and Abandonment
We’ll give you access to a VIP airport lounge if you’re scheduled flight is delayed for more than two hours. The delay must be announced in one go, rather than a series of shorter delays. Lounge access is subject to availability at the time or at your airport.
Alternatively, if you can’t take advantage of airport lounge access, we’ll reimburse you for each full 12 hour period you are delayed up to the benefit level stated on your policy, and if you’re still delayed after 24 hours, you can claim for holiday cancellation costs with our Abandonment cover.
Missed departure
If you miss your international departure point on your outbound journey from the UK because your car breaks down or there’s a delay in public transport, missed departure cover reimburses you for the cost of reaching your trip destination (e.g. additional flight costs).
Loss of passport
If your passport is lost or stolen while you’re travelling, you’ll need to obtain emergency travel document from the local British embassy or consulate which is often in another town or city. Our passport benefit will cover the cost of travelling to collect your document (although not the cost of the document itself). We’ll also cover a similar travel costs to obtain replacement green cards and driving licences.
BigBlueCover also covers you for personal liability, legal costs, lost cash and a range of other benefits if you select optional cover or Winter Sports or Cruise Cover.
